The Tambool: The Fold, The Stain, The Story

Inspired by the ritual of paan making, this collection translates the gestures of folding, wrapping, sealing, and offering into contemporary womenswear. The garments draw from the rich visual language of betel leaves, silver varak, clove, and deep red stains, transforming everyday cultural practices into sculptural forms. Through draping, layering, and material contrasts, the collection explores how ordinary rituals carry memory, identity, and meaning. Tambool celebrates the beauty found in objects that are touched, shared, and passed through generations.

Sketches and studies

This development process documents how the collection evolved from research into paan folding techniques, ingredient studies, and material references. Through iterative draping, silhouette explorations, gathering experiments, and closure developments, traditional gestures of folding, wrapping, and sealing were translated into contemporary garment construction. Each study helped refine the final forms, ensuring that the collection remained rooted in the ritual and visual language of paan while creating a modern fashion expression.
